Knoydart
The last wilderness. Unaccessible by road, home to about 100 people.
Stretching from Barisdale
in the North to Inverie in the South. From Sgurr na Ciche in the East,
to Doune in the West.
The main village is Inverie where there is a post office, accommodation
and the 'Remotest Pub on Mainland Britain'
Knoydart is also known as Garbh Chriochan - the rough bounds, with 4
Munroes and many other fine hills, it is a walkers paradise.
The
estate is now owned and run by the Knoydart
Foundation, a community led cooperative venture involving the community,
the Highland Council, the John
Muir Trust, the Brasher Trust and other local landowners.

Mallaig
Our local town and harbour. Mallaig came into 'existence' at the turn
of the century when the railway was brought through to the coast. Previous
to this the centre of fishing locally was Tarbert, which is half way
up Loch Nevis.
Mallaig is now one of the busiest ports in Scotland, particularly for
prawns (scampi or langoustine). It still sits at the end of one of the
most beautiful train journeys in the UK and has links to the Islands
through Caledonian
MacBrayne.
