What to do from Doune
- as much or as little as you like.
Enjoy the total peace at Doune, make use of our boats "Gripper" and "Mary Doune" for walking, diving, exploring Knoydart or visiting the islands, or join one of our guided weeks for hillwaking or photography.
We live on the quiet side of the peninsula, 6 miles from the bustle of the village of Inverie with its daily ferry and busy pub. Doune is the best place to experience the true wildness of Knoydart. You can enjoy perfect peace right from your door. A stay at Doune though doesn't mean you can't reach those mountains, paths and islands that we are famous for. If you want to explore further our boats are the key. Please browse the links on the left to see what we can offer.
Our 32 ft boat Gripper II will add an extra dimension to your holiday. Explore Knoydart, it's mountains, paths and beaches - with a different drop off and pick up you don't have to retrace your steps. Trips are organized and booked on a daily basis and we usually discuss plans the evening before. We have extensive local knowledge and experience and we are delighted to share it with you. Gripper is available mostly to our Stone Lodge guests.
Our fast charter boat Mary Doune can be reserved in advance by parties using Doune Bay Lodge for diving, wildlife watching, photography, island hopping and hillwalking. Fast, seaworthy and manoeuvrable, she was designed for use in the Hebrides and especially for getting to those beautiful places which are inaccessible in any other way. Her speciality is trips to the Small Isles as well as Skye and the Knoydart coastline. With a speed of up to 18 knots, passages are short and there is plenty of time to indulge your passion.
Both boats are licenced to carry 12 guests, have an on board toilet and small galley and are fully equipped with all safety gear. Our skippers are highly qualified and have many years experience. We know this area better than anyone.
Each year we host several varied themed weeks, each run by experts in their subject. Look at the choices on the left of the page. The prices are displayed on each of these pages.
Based in Inverie, the Knoydart Foundation Ranger Service organise guided walks around Knoydart on a regular basis.
Also if you fancy seeing Knoydart from horseback, then Anna and Angela are running pony trekking trips from Inverie.
If you would like to find out more about either of these, just give us a call.
Advice on weather, routes and clothing is always available and we will help in anyway we can to make your visit an enjoyable one.
