Coming to Doune on Knoydart as an individual need not be a lonely experience although you will certainly find lots of space if you want to be on your own.

Either book the Restaurant Bothy, one of the Stone Lodge rooms for single occupancy or join in with one of our groups enjoying more structured activities such as photography, hillwalking and island hopping, which make use of our fast boat Mary Doune and our other accommodation Doune Bay Lodge, please follow the links to the left.

Guests usually sit together for meals and in the convivial atmosphere of the Dining Room many have made lasting friendships even returning for another holiday together.

doune stone lodge interior knoydartThe Dining Room and Stone Lodges nestle between the hillside and the sea. They are rebuilt from the ruins of a cottage which stood empty for 140 years and are traditional in appearance, but modern in comfort. The windows look out over the moored boats and Dun Head, where there are the remains of a pictish, vitrified fort.  The view then extends over to Skye and provides fabulous sunsets on a summers evening

The Bothy is a delightful room at the end of the restaurant building.  Light and airy and brightly furnished, the room has a comfortable single bed which can be converted to twin beds if required.  There is a washhand basin in the room and and a shower and toilets are just next door.

The Stone Lodge rooms have ensuite facilities and plenty of space with easy chairs to relax and enjoy the view.  Each has it's own porch and access to the sea-facing decking along the front of the building.

When choosing something to do; simply walk locally, or make use of our skippered boat Gripper  which opens up opportunities for walking on all of Knoydart from easy tracks to the more challenging peaks. Our skipper is available every evening to discuss plans for the following day. doune bay lodge interior knoydart
